5 FIT questions to prepare at least, regardless of the practice

Apart from the PEI McKinsey, about which we have written a detailed article for you to read on our blog, all strategy consulting firms will ask you these 5 FIT questions during your interviews, regardless of your seniority. For positions that are not “entry-level” (experienced positions, at least two years of professional experience), you can also, in addition to the 5 questions listed below, anticipate Situational questions such as”In your opinion, what will be the main challenges you will face during your integration?“. Remember that certain principles must be respected in your way of responding: you must be structured, clear, effective and specific. Your interviewers test not only the human fit but also the effectiveness of your communication, which will be essential when working on intense and high-stakes projects. Don't underestimate this part of your preparation, which requires time and going back and forth on your text and your oral performance. Generally, it takes at least 4 hours of preparation to achieve an acceptable result, and much more if you want to excel. Especially since each question must be prepared in French and English.

Let's go for the 5 FIT questions to prepare!

1) Introduce yourself or the “pitch”

This question is most likely to be the first thing you need to do. Here, even if you must try to remain natural, do not improvise. The idea is to present yourself in a professional, impactful and synthetic way. The objective is to summarize your professional experiences and to announce areas of discussion to explore with your interviewer during the interview, whether about your motivations or to detail this or that experience mentioned on your financial resume (such as turnover, etc.)

2) Why advice?

This question is always asked during interviews. However, many candidates do not know how to treat it in order to stand out. Find our 6 arguments to shine in maintenance.

3) Why the office (and possibly the office)?

It's the question that's a bit more specific to the firm and office you're aiming for. It requires that you talk to people in the firm and do your research online. The idea is to show that you take your application seriously and that it is the result of careful consideration. We made you a Sample article on the question “Why BCG” with the top 3 reasons to join this firm prestigious.

4) Tell me about your experience at X, what was your role?

For this question, as for the next one, we recommend the STAR framework (Situation, Target, Actions, Result) to which it is often useful to add a Learnings section where you detail your learnings from experience and how they can be useful for your consulting experience. This question and the next one require a lot of preparation time because you need to be able to “defend” each bullet point mentioned on your resume. If you have three professional experiences on your resume, you must prepare an answer for each of them, in French and English!

5) Tell me about a project at X

The STAR framework is also very suitable for this question. Be careful to speak well Of what YOU did not your business or your team. Also remember to return your more impactful story by integrating numbers. Once you have your first draft, do not hesitate to ask for feedback from qualified people to achieve excellence before your interviews.

Conclusion

Having the FIT logic in mind and knowing the different types of questions to prepare is a good first step. It is absolutely necessary to train in order to master them all. Note that these 5 questions are the main ones. However, you may also be confronted with “original” questions that you will nevertheless be more comfortable with if you have done a serious preparation to know how to best present yourself and defend your candidacy.
