LEK is a global strategy consulting firm created in 1983 by three former Partners of Bain & Company : James Lawrence, Iain Evans and Richard Koch. With over 1,400 consultants worldwide, LEK is present in 24 countries. The Paris office was created in 1988 and currently has 70 consultants (2023).

What career path at LEK?

At LEK, consultants work in 4 levels of seniority:

  • Consultant (average length of 2 years)
  • Case Team Leader (3 to 4 years of experience)
  • Principal (5 to 7 years of experience)
  • Partner (more than 8 years of experience)

What types of missions at LEK?

LEK consultants work on several types of missions, including:

  • Due diligence on the sale or purchase side
  • Growth or recovery strategies
  • Competitive analyses
  • Other types of missions

In 2021, globally, LEK's turnover was distributed at 40% for due diligence, 30% for strategies and 30% for other types of missions. At the Paris office, the distribution is 50% for due diligence, 30% for strategies and 20% for other types of missions.

How do I join LEK and when to apply?

To join LEK, you can apply online on their career space. LEK recruits all year round for all seniors. However, it is advisable to apply early to increase your chances of being selected. We recommend that you apply 4 to 6 months prior to your desired entry date.

What is the recruitment process at LEK?

The recruitment process at LEK consists of several steps depending on the type of contract desired:

  • Stage : an online test is generally offered, followed by an in-person interview with a Consultant or Manager. Depending on the office, it generally takes 2 to 3 interviews.
  • CDI : there is first an online problem-solving test, followed by 2 or 3 in-person interviews. Each interview lasts about 1 hour and consists of a “fit” part and a case study. Interviews are conducted by consultants of different seniority. There are usually 4 to 5 interviews in total.

What qualities does LEK look for?

LEK generally aims for Bac+5 degrees from a major business or engineering school. The main qualities sought for each level of seniority are the following:

  • Consultant : ability to analyze, intellectual curiosity, team spirit
  • Case Team Leader : leadership, project management, analytical skills
  • Principal : project management, leadership, strategic vision
  • Partner : commercial development, customer management, strategic vision

Why LEK over other firms?

At LEK, there is a significant amount of “room work”, that is, working in the office without going to the customer's house. In addition, LEK regularly organizes social, sports, cultural and travel events to create a good working environment. This is a little less the case in other firms with a financial DNA such as Bain, Roland Berger or Kearney.

For example, LEK organizes summer evenings, end of year evenings, informal lunches, networking events with other professionals in the sector. For sporting events, LEK organizes soccer tournaments, marathons, hikes or yoga sessions. For cultural events, LEK organizes museum visits, theater shows and concerts. Finally, for trips, LEK regularly organizes weekends in the mountains, at the beach or abroad.

As far as LEK's Paris office is concerned, their teleworking policy is quite flexible according to the feedback from our alumni. The request should include a detailed explanation of why the consultant wants to change offices, as well as a description of the consultant's experience and skills. LEK reviews all office change requests on a case-by-case basis and takes into account various factors such as market demand, office needs, and consultant skills. Consultants may be invited to participate in additional interviews to discuss their application and career goals. Ultimately, the decision to change offices is made by LEK based on the needs of the business and the interests of the consultant.
